Apple has kept the fingerprint Touch ID scanner for its 2017 models, i.e. iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. However, it is known already that its flagship of this year, i.e. anniversary iPhone X, will not be containing the fingerprint scanner, and that is due to the new Face ID feature that will be used for unlocking the phone.
Moreover, the front-facing TrueDepth Camera will be enough for the provision of facial recognition, which will be helpful for the user to unlock the device as well as verify his or her identity while using the Apple Pay.
Moreover, this was confirmed today by the KGI Securities analysts that the Apple iPhones and iPads releasing from the next year will not be coming with fingerprint scanners, and instead the users will get the Face ID feature, which would have become a regular feature already. The prediction of the agency stated that just in the same way of removal of headphone jack, the touch ID scanner will also be done away with by the company.
