Few days back, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had given deadline for the submission of application for 4G spectrum. Jazz was the sole operator who made application for 4G spectrum. None of the other operators showed any interest in this auction. As Jazz was the only applicant, according to rules Jazz has been given the license for 4G spectrum. There was no bidding.
According to authentic sources, PTA has formally notified Jazz as a winner of 4G spectrum. It has been guided to submit spectrum fee in a month. As per sources, 50% ($295 million excluding tax) will be paid by Jazz in a month and the rest 50% will be payable by January 2018.
Jazz was given two option regarding spectrum fee payment. Jazz will be awarded 4G spectrum in a ceremony expected after the initial payment. Jazz will then be able to use any frequency between 1762.3-1785 / 1857.3-1880 range.
It is worthy to mention that Jazz operates 4G acquired through Warid. It is rapidly increasing its investments in 4G which shows that Jazz is likely to expand more during this year and future. Not to forget that Jazz is one of the mostly used and trusted telecom operator in Pakistan.
