Very recently Internet Society has conducted a special work for web accessibility or it benefits for special persons. This is specially organized for people with disabilities.Shabbir Ahmed, a representative while telling his concerns on this issue stated that we talk about marginalities, interest group and bigotry but no one talks about people with disabilities in this respect.
“There is a dire need to incorporate people with disabilities in our work and utilize talent. The purpose of gathering everyone here is not just to make web more accessible for people with special needs but also to find a way to let them join the processes and operations.”
He further commented.
Ahmed stresses that implementation of standards, policies and laws to complete what has been entitled for making the websites accessible.
“In terms of the accessibility of a website, its design and content both should be accessible.”
SaimaYousaf,a freelance web professional and creatorfrom Beyond Vision emphasized the importance of special people using Website and extracting benefits from it like e-learning.
“Before we find ways to make web accessible, we need to know the precise meaning of accessibility; it is to give equal access of information to everyone on a particular subject.”
She elaborated.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, also said people with disabilities need equal status. According to stats 20 to 30 million special person have the right to engage with web.
“I feel proud to be a part of this because I get to know several things that will be looked into near future. I believe learning is unstoppable process. PTA is going to try its best to play a role in software development and work with telecoms to make web more accessible.” Dr. Shah expressed.
