Haier will supply Punjab Government 2000 Laptops for next phase of Lap Top Scheme

The Punjab Govt has initiated the second phase of Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. This time Haier, the successful bidder, has contracted to provide 2 lacs laptops to university students.The Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Muktar Ahmed announced that Haier has won the bid and wouldcontract to supply 2 lacs laptops for the scheme for year 2015.

As per the terms of contract, Haier will be supplying laptop-cum-tablet from November 2015. The Haier will deploy trained engineers and also set-up performance based testing laboratory in Pakistan. Students who will be given the Laptops will also have access to 170 Microsoft Licensed software as well as digital library.

According to Chairman HEC the tender was advertised on April 12, 2015 whereby the bid can only be made till May 12, 2015. First meeting with potential bidders happened on April 21, 2015. At first, the bid is extended to May 26, 2015 while later the bid was again extended to June 9, 2015.The tender was opened on June 09, 2015.

Dr. Mukhtarinformed Haier Electrical Appliances Corp. China submitted its bid in time. The proposal was first technically evaluated by committee then it visited local assembling facility at Haier Industrial Park, Lahore. After this,recommendations of Technical Committee were forwarded to the Tender Committee. The Financial Bid was opened on July 8, 2015. The Chairman HEC further revealed thatprice comparison was made by an independent committee of IT Expert governed by Vice Chancellor and experts from different universities. In the end, the tender was given to Haier after a thorough process.

This scheme will award laptops to all the MPhil and PhD students enrolled in public sector universities and rest of the university students will be awarded according to the merit.
