Haier is apparently looking to build a production facility in Pakistan. A delegation headed by Mr. Zeeshan Qureshi, CEO Haier Mobile, yesterday met AnushaRehman, Minister of State for IT and Telecom, to discuss the details. The Haier official discussed that with increasing 3G/4G demand, there is dire need of producing smartphone locally.
Considering this need Haier would like to build an Assembly line for smartphones. The delegate focused that this is the time they should stop importing the smartphones and build local Assembly line to cater this demand locally. Haier wants to manufacture smartphones within Pakistan.
AnushaRehman previously also pushed the need of local manufacturing units confirmed that the government will support this initiative and they will provide special incentives such as tax relaxation and more. With the booming population Pakistan poses a very natural market for the growth of locally manufactured smartphones.
She further stated “Pakistan has educated and skilled young labor force, which will surely make the local manufacturing endeavor as a cost effective phenomenon.”
Haier has entered Pakistani market in 2001 and manufactured Air Conditioners and Home Appliances and now stands Number 2nd in Pakistan. Recently it has started Assembly Line for laptops and now it is preparing to start another venture that boosts smartphone industry.
