Twitter Lite is under testing and the purpose of this lightweight app is to hit countries with slow data. This isn’t for the first time, in fact Facebook and Google are also trimming down their mobile apps for regional data availability especially with slow data.

Twitter officially confirmed that it has been testing native Android app in Philippines same like its Lite website. Slow networks and limited data plans makes standard Twitter app less of a use. Main features of the app would stay intact just the cut on media which eats up all bandwidth.

‘Data Saver’ mode when on, it would prevent showing pictures and videos until and unless user wants to.

Twitter further said that it would only gathers space of 3MB in mobile phone and that the app would use up to 70% less data.

For now, it’s a test and the availability to other countries isn’t sure.
