Water resistant doesn’t mean that the device is completely safe from any damage cause by water. So, user must know few things before he makes a purchase. Apple’s iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are claimed to be water proof.

IP rating is the Ingress Protection Rating or can say International Protection Rating. There are no hypens or spaces in such ratings and 2 of the common ones are IP67 and IP68. The IP ratings are codes designed to check the degrees of protection provided.

First number of the rating shows the protection degrees from foreign solid objects which varies from 0-6 and second number rating shows the protection degrees from moisture and it varies from 0-8.

If there is ‘X’ mentioned in the rating that means the device hasn’t been tested.

Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are with rating of IP67 which means it’s fully protected from dust with number 6 rating and the device can stay in water of 1m for 30minutes with rating number 7.
