Analysis: Tablet sales in Q1 Reach new lows with only 33 Million Shipments

  MPC Team

The global sales of tablets are increasingly declining according to a report published by Digitimes Research. There were only 33 million units sold during the first quarter of 2018. This shows about 28.2% decline in tablet sales on quarterly basis, as well as 14.9% decline on yearly basis.

According to the analysts, there are two main reasons for this decline, i.e. clients adjusting inventory and lack of stimulation from the non-Apple producers.

The latest tablet offered by Apple was iPad 9.7 (2018), which had a high price, and which led to lower shipments.

Moreover, the tablets released in this year so far bear the size of 9.7 inches or more, while the tablets of 7 inches and 8 inches are no more in demand. For the second consecutive quarter, sales of smaller sized tablets are down by 8%.

This is however expected that Apple will have a better next quarter owing to the release of new iPad Pro device. No major launches are currently in plans from other manufacturers, which is the reason that there is an expectation of further decline by up to 6.24% in global shipments, which amounts up to 31.06 million shipments.
