PTA has recently announced to hold a spectrum auction of wireless local loop (WLL) licenses for primarily two regions i.e. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (G-B) regions. The Auction will take place on December 4, 2015.
As reported by Information Memorandum (IM), a policy document relevant to auction on PTA’s website is published. With this PTA will give two licenses of 5 Megahertz (MHz) each. It will contain 1,900MHz band at a base price of PKR.
56 million, PKR. 12 million and PKR. 8 million for Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and northern areas, respectively. The 1,900 MHz band is dedicated for both 2G and 4G technology.
PTA is also urging for auctioning 30MHz with 3.5GHz band at a base price of PKR. 8 million, PKR. 3.2 million, and PKR 3.2 million for Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and northern areas, respectively. The aforementioned areas were not a part of April 2014 Auction due to distinctive political and administrative status.
The WLL licenses give operators the opportunity to offer services in definite area. This is very much unlike 3G and 4G mobile broadband licenses, which were previously auctioned among four telecom operators.
