Previously we mentioned when Warid LTE might launch i.e. in October, but due to extensive trails, and few legal and official hurdles, this had been delayed and importantly a couple of times. Now the LTE was finally and officially launched on 26thof December. This is good news for Warid customers and no doubt for Warid itself too as it was a hard battle to won with ZONG. Zong has launched 4G LTE prior to Warid.
LTE or 4G LTE are two titles of one technology currently penetrating the mobile internet market in Pakistan. You might wonder why Warid is not officially using the word 4G with LTE. One explanation could be that despite the political favors acquired in introducing the 4G,Warid experienced immense resistance from Chinese giant; Zong. Firstly because Zong was highest bidder of 4G LTE. Secondly, it paid 210 million to PTA for frequency band. As Zong has made double effort, it not only launched the technology first but also claimed at using the word 4G LTE exclusively. Warid had neither made the payment nor participated in the bid thus is deprived of using the word 4G with LTE.
Amidst the grey Area, the white and black is that Warid was giving 7 day free trial to its commercial customers. Customers were sent SMS messages, automated calls and emails notifying them about the end of trials and the tariffs for data transactions. Warid LTE service will be available in limited cities i.e. Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala.
