For the first time in 11 years of Twitter, the character count within the tweets is going to be increased from actual 140 characters to 280 characters. This change will only be available for a small group of individuals so as to evaluate its effectiveness; after which it will be available to everyone in near future.
Twitter mentioned it in its blog how the people had been experiencing different problems due to character limit of 140. English users of Twitter had experienced the most problems, as they usually had to divide their thoughts into two different tweets and present the information in two different messages altogether.
In some languages, the 140-character limit was sufficient, but others found it limited, and that is why the company has decided about it and is already rolling out 280-character limit to some of the users, whereas the rest of the world would get it very soon.
