Netflix Refused to Support Unlocked and Rooted Android Devices.

  Muhammad Zeeshan

Netflix, one of the most downloaded apps from the Play Store but it isn’t working fine with unlocked or rooted devices. It is actually blocking the unlocked devices access to the Netflix app via Play Store. This change comes with the updated version i.e. 5.0 and has Google’s Widevine DRM. That is the reason why, those devices which aren’t Google-Certified won’t be able to access the app, even such users won’t even see the app in the Play Store.

There is confusion out there, Widevine DRM has 3 security levels for which it works but for Netflix app it seems to be linked with SafetyNet status of the device rather being associated with Widevine DRM.

Also, some unlocked and modified devices still have the app up and running but it’s a timed thing and the app might stop running. Point is, it shouldn’t be working on all unlocked devices if the update is meant for that purpose.
