Instagram declared today that Instagram bug exploited celebrity accounts in order to reach to their emails and phone numbers. The bug has been discovered just recently from Instagram programming interface, an API being used by the company to interact with other apps.

Although, Instagram refused to name the targeted celebrities but this news has surfaced after Selena Gomez Instagram account, the most followed account got hacked 2 days ago.

“We recently discovered that one or more individuals obtained unlawful access to a number of high-profile Instagram users’ contact information — specifically email address and phone number — by exploiting a bug in an Instagram API…no account passwords were exposed. We fixed the bug swiftly and are running a thorough investigation,” said the company official statement.

It has been notified to all account holders of the possible leak of their contact information and encourages the practice to not respond to unknown emails or messages.
