The concerned Pakistani government officials are in negotiations with BlackBerry not to leave Pakistan. An important point to note is both the company and operators are not in favor of BB’s stay in Pakistan.A source from government updated that:
“In 2015, the operators were asked to obtain the NOC by the end of November, otherwise services would be closed down, but the operators showed little interest in obtaining NOC probably due to the high cost of BES system maintenance and less demand.”
This issue aroused when the government of Pakistan asked BlackBerry to provide access to BES (Business Enterprise System) in accordance with National Action Plan. Otherwise, the services are to be blocked by November 30, 2015. In reply of which the company planned its exit in November stating that Pakistan should not compromise on its security situation. BB arrived in Pakistan in 2013 and started it services with the help of telecom operators.
If we look deep into the matter, Indian government was also allowed once access mails, attachment in real time and BBM messages and intervene web browsing. In Pakistan, it was a different case the BES services are not given with PTA’s permission. There was no NOC obtained even when the operators had strict directives. Due to which Pakistan suspended the services in 2011 which were again restored shortly.
However, after the unfortunate attacks of Peshawar APS, the whole scenario changed, when government started demanding an access to BES to tap terrorist in the country.
