Google announces Android One in Africa as Infinix Hot 2

Google has recently announced Android One program in a more new market. This time it is Africa where google has been testing its luck for promoting affordability saga. So far it has been limited to Asian markets.  The smartphone is being showcased as infinix Hot 2 in Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco.

These countries consist of 379 million population. Infinix, Google’s partner in Africa, is currently is apparently “one of the hottest, fastest growing smartphone brands in Africa”.

The Infinix Hot 2 packs a 5-inch 720p touchscreen. It runs on 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage in gold color only. Further, it is powered by 2,200mAh battery. There’s also a 1GB RAM version available in black, white, red, or blue color options. Camera-wise, it has an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2 MP Selfie shooter.

Currently the infinix Hot 2 runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but is guaranteed to receive an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow at some point in the future.

The Hot 2 is currently selling in Nigeria for NGN 17,500 (for 1GB RAM) or NGN 19,500 (for 2GB RAM). This roughly makes $87 and $97, respectively. This device will hit other African markets in few days, presumably with similar price set.
