Xiaomi in collaboration with Foxconn has started manufacturing smartphones in India. This is related to India’s Make in India campaign to manufacture goods in India.Xiaomi and Foxconn have set up production facility in Sri City in the state of Andhra Pradesh. This is the second Xiaomi plant with Foxconn outside China. The first one was set up in Brazil.
The first phone being manufactured and now launched is Redmi 2 Prime. With the rest being identical, it has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage compared to 1GB RAM and 8GB storage on the Redmi 2.The phone inadvertently appeared ahead of launch on Flipkartand Amazon. The Redmi 2 Prime will set you back for PKR. 6,999 ($110). This is an open sale on Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, and Mi.com.
Redmi 2 Prime will not be the only device which will be manufactured in Andhra Pradesh. Eventually, Xiaomi will start manufacturing other all its brands locally in India.
