BlackBerry PRIV was initially available in US exclusively via AT&T via special contract. After the contract term was over, it started selling on T-Mobile as well as Verizon. Sprint was also rumored to join the other three but now it is appearing that the device will never sell via this carrier at all.
The Sprint might become less ambitious of the sale of BlackBerry PRIV and also thinks that with $700 price tag it is difficult to find a generous stream of buyers. John Chen, the CEO, also admitted that price of PRIV was quite uncompetitive and high. He further mentioned that there are two more handsets in works which will be mid-rangers priced under $300-$400 range.
If there is only one carrier that should be nice with BlackBerry, that is Sprint. The AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon just look okay if the business of BB is still dwindling. BlackBerry should hope that the next earnings report, which will include a full quarter’s worth of PRIV sales from Verizon, shows significant improvement. Despite of Sprint not selling it, the figures come to be really appealing for further investments.
