Samsung to Directly Challenge Sony by Building its own 1,000 fps Camera!

  MPC Team

It is known that Sony was the first-ever company to build the on-chip Motion Eye camera, which was integrated in Xperia XZs as well as Xperia XZ Premium. News is now rolling out from South Korea that Samsung Semiconductors is going to build the like camera by the end of November, which will be ready to be used in the upcoming Galaxy S smartphone.

The main advantage of using such on-chip memory is that the camera will be able to store so many frames at a faster pace, through which it will be able to shoot about 1,000 fps slow-motion video.

Compared with Sony’s three-layered chip having memory, control logic and pixels, Samsung’s camera design will be a bit different, as it intends to use the two-layered chip, which will then be bonded with the DRAM chip. Probably, this is for abstaining from any sort of patent infringement.

However, it is feared that camera design by Samsung will not be as sophisticated as that of Sony’s. Let’s wait for Galaxy S9 and see whether Samsung uses all-Samsung built sensors or uses the mix of Sony as well as Samsung-made sensors just like it did in case of Galaxy S8.
