Punjab Government has increased tax on internet.

Punjab government declared recently that 3G,4G and DSL or any other kind of internet will levy 19.5% sales tax.Dr Ayesha Bukhsh, the finance minister for Punjab also confirmed about it. There would be another 14% tax which is being deducted from internet services all over the country. This will make a total of 35% tax.

This is a huge amount.Students who are using the internet below Rs 1500 monthly are exempted from this tax.  Many officials from the mobile phone companies are saying that this is against the government digital Pakistan ambition.  The new tax will applicable from July 1st, 2017. Now Pakistan is one of those countries where internet is taxed. Punjab government has also imposed tax in 2014 but withdrew it after getting lot of complaints about it.

Pakistan has added 40 million new internet users in the last three years and with the new tax the economic growth of the country will definitely affect.

Let us tell you that Punjab has 50% population of Pakistan and the 56% of internet users of Pakistan belong to Punjab province.
