PEMRA has declared extreme prohibition on Indian related contents and channels esp. those that spread illegal activities, vulgarity and obscenity. PEMRA has also warned that on airing the prohibited channels, the license of the cable operators will be suspended. Meanwhile this announcement, the local cable operators are still found involved in these illegal practices on broadcasting these channels.
PEMRA executives are aiming high to overthrow unlawful propagation of Indian DTH, illegal channels and piracy.Further PEMRA emphasized on the growth of local industry by exclusion of intervention and influence of substandard literature from the neighbors. Non-commercial FM radio was also thought to scrutinize esp. those who are violating the content rules. The PEMRA also discuss digitalization of cable TV with operators and problem being confronted from tax departments.
Cable operator are required to and will be given all assistance to turn their analogue system into digital one by the end of 2015. It is mandatory if the license expire within the time frame. PEMRA would not give License if the operator did not meet the condition of digitalization in line with International Telecom Union (ITU) obligation.
