Nokia smartphone division was being sold to Finnish company Microsoft for $7.2 Billion in 2013. Now again Nokia is planning to re-establish it smartphone division and is likely to enter India first as it the largest growing market for affordable smartphones.
According to the Economic Times, Nokia is working on a series of Window powered handsets that will be released in India at the end of this year. The devices will soon be upgraded to Windows 10 after launch. Very recently, a few sources revealed that Microsoft share dropped to 8.1 percent from 9.8 in India. Also According to Counterpoint Nokia is the fourth largest in selling feature phones but as the Lumia sales dropped heavily, even Microsoft is out of the league of first five smartphones sellers in India.
No detail and specs are shared but we can speculate, considering the purchasing power in India, these will be affordable smartphones with mid-range capacity. Ajey Mehta, Microsoft’s Mobile Devices India manager, told Economic Times that “the new phones would support all forms of 4G — presently a rarity amongst devices other phone makers have released in the region.”
Despite Samsung is a market leader and sells smartphone primarily; they do not sell the flagship or premium devices as a prime product in the region so far.
