After writing off the Nokia business and laying off 7,800 employees, it was clear that the Nokia devices and Service business was a failure and burden to carry around.
It is reported that in restructuring Microsoft‘s Executive Vice President of the Windows and Devices Group Terry Myerson will become the head of the entire Microsoft Devices division. This means Microsoft will now launch Windows, phone (Lumia), tablet (Surface), console (Xbox), HoloLens, and Band business under one Devices division. It is said that this will likely to help Microsoft programming and engineering teams to work closer and better on future products.
Satya Nadella, the CEO, announced all those changes yesterday, but didn’t shed some light on the future of Lumia series. Still, there are some news revealed by Bloomberg shared by an unknown source on Lumia Phones with some spicy details.
Apparently Microsoft will release Lumia smartphones quite similar to Apple’s release schedule. The Phones will be divided in three different categories – flagship, business and value. Each year Microsoft will launch “one or two models” per category, which makes for up to six handsets per year. These unconfirmed announced will probably be effective from next year. Microsoft is also expected to unveil a Windows 10 flagship this fall.
Dividing the phone business into those categories means that the manufacturer will remain focused on certain features and deliver unique and satisfying experience.
