India has the world’s second largest market of smartphones, where almost every well-known mobile phone company wants to operate and grew its share. But that is the general fact that all of us know. So, the fact unknown to us is India has an immensely large market for second hand mobile phones in both high range and lower range segments. According to some reports, there are about 20 million used mobiles in India and roughly 4 million second hand mobile phones are sold via commerce sites.
In quarter 1 of 2017, the average price of new smartphone selling in India is Rs. 10,000 but the average price of each mobile phone sold online is Rs 9,000. The reality that the price of new smartphones in India is approximately equal to the price of second hand phones depicts the tough mobile phone market in the country.
It’s really interesting to know that, in financial year 2016-17 online re-selling podiums noticed Chinese brands are more in and leading the market on the other hand Indian manufacturers decreasing. Like according to OLX during FY 2016-17 the listing share of Xiaomi increased from 4.2% to 12.8% on OLX.
The survey result says that the major reason behind selling mobile phone is just the “desire to upgrade”. Almost 27% of the people told us ‘boredom’ as the prime reason for selling mobile phones. However, there is one more reason that has been urging the online sales of used mobile phones is the more price received by selling online. According to survey, you can sale your mobile phone online 25% higher than the one who realized via offline selling.
