The worlds slimmest Smart Phone Oppo R5 is announced for launching either at the end of November or in first week of December 2014 by the emerging Telecom company Oppo. The Oppo R5 smart phone is not only thrashing the world record by an ample margin of 0.3mm but also adding up the first 64-bit smart phone to its flagship. The initially announced colors are silver and gold. The Oppo R5 is adequately priced at USD 499 in the Upper Mid Range Smart Phones. The Price in Pak Rupees is about
Rs. 51,000 to Rs. 52,000. Operating on Color OS 2.0 (based on Android 4.4) including TDD/FDD LTE 4G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, runs on an octa-core Cortex-A53 1.5 GHz processor powered by Snapdragon 615 Qualcomm’s mid-range octa-core chipset. It features an Adreno 405 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal Storage.
The Oppo R5 is framed with high grade aluminum alloy using 3D Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, the best in the industry. Oppo improved the finishing by hand-polishing the frame. Phone measures 148.9×74.5×4.85mm (5.86×2.93×0.19 inch) with 5.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen and weighs 155g. The 16M colors, 1080p resolution, 423 ppi assures high accuracy of colors, most excellent brightness and depleted reflectivity.
The Oppo R5 is equipped with primary (back) 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor camera with an aperture f/2.0. This gives a professional touch to photography and provides more refined and powerful ways to perfect the photo images and to select your best snapshots. The secondary (front) camera specifies 5MP which also at par with high-end smart phones. The video recording supports 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps and 720p@120fps. The slowmo (slow motion) feature allows users to record at high rate of 120fps and then play at normal rate of 30fps. The sports spectators who love to record their favorite sports persons play like goals in football, sixes & fours in Cricket, etc. will have an unbounded attraction for R5.
Oppo also innovatively introduced VOOC (Voltage Open Loop Multi-Step Constant-Current Charging) rapid charging technology to charge 2000 mAh Li-Polymer battery. Oppo claims that using VOOC the phone can be fully charged in 60 to 70 minutes. Another achievement is packing 2000mAh battery within 4mm thickness.
Oppo R5 Challenges/Probable Disadvantages:
Expansion slot for external SD memory card is not provided. A slight lift of Primary Camera at back is a compromise with style. Adequate dissipation of generated heat in order to keep the thinnest as well as metallic phone cool and normal temperature. To eradicate probable heating problem Oppo has paid specific attention & effort and applied a coating of special cooling element made from liquid-metal and phase-change materials. This cooling element will take heat away from the chipset. A 3.5mm audio jack is not provided. The reason might be the very low thickness of the phone. Alternately Oppo has provided a microUSB to audio jack adapter which is also included in the retail package.
