Samsung app (Wemogee) uses emojis to help people with language disorders to communicate

Emojis started off as a silly addition to our texts and other messages and over time became increasingly popular and now have even managed to find their own purpose as a new communication tool Samsung has recognized their potential and decided to start using them as more than just a fun addition. They have done this by creating the Wemogee app. This can actually help people suffering from aphasia. Aphasia is a disorder which makes the person unable to read, write and talk.

Samsung Electronics, Italy made a cooperation with a speech therapist Francesca Polini and created this app Wemogee.  This app replaces the textual phrases into emoji for smoother interaction. Wemogee is used for personal interactions and also as a messaging app. It supports Italian and English language with an Android version coming out on April 28. iOS version is also expected to come out in the near future.

Aphasia happens when the brain is injured and it has caused damage to those regions in it whose function is to understand the language or not speaking properly. This disease can be caused by strokes, traumatic injuries, brain tumors or some sort of neurodegenerative diseases.

More than two million Americans are suffering from this disorder currently and 180,000 more are developing it with each new year. Many were forced to use pictures or made signals in an attempt to express themselves. Wemogee is supposed to be an easier alternative. It is a chat app for the people suffering from this disease.  It has a textual and a visual mode. Users can create more than 140 phrases from emojiswhich could be put into six different categories.

This works because Aphasics understand emotions, gestures, facial expressions and images but cannot formulate words. Many people believe that emojis are finishing the written communication and are proven to be very helpful for childrens those have problem talking about the abuse. Emojis “alphabet” continues to grow and as it happens and people will have an easier time expressing themselves.
